Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Can you believe that we are already at Memorial Day?! It’s insane how fast time is flying. In any event, another one of my fav things to do, whether I am quarantined or not, is to organize (obvi lol). Lately, I have been reorganizing spaces, making them less cluttered and tossing things I don’t need or want. I have been trying to dedicate some space in my tiny closet for my accessories, so that I can easily get them when I get dressed (although I have been living in leggings and tshirts for 2 months lol).
Once I decided on what shelf would hold my accessories, I looked to see what organizers I already had and which ones I needed to purchase. I realized that I had a good set of organizers and only needed to purchase a set of drawers to store extra jewelry, which I found on Amazon for a steal. I was specifically looking for acrylic drawers that were really wide, which for some reason are hard to find.
Anyway, once I had all the pieces needed to organize the space, I went to work. Check out my tips and tricks below and let me know if you have a space in your closet dedicated to your accessories too! I think as the seasons change, my closet set up changes and I add and subtract as I see fit. My Tips for Creating a Curated Corner:
Dedicate a small corner of your closet, be it a shelf, drawer or hanging area, to your accessory corner. Since I have this closet kit installed, I was able to dedicate one full shelf (pictured above) to my accessories, plus one shelf in the middle row of shelves for my clutch organizer.
If there are items already there, find another home for them. I had sweatshirts and sweaters on these shelves, most of which got put back in storage given the change of season.
Next, measure the space! I cannot stress this enough. Measuring is so important, especially since we can’t just run to the store to exchange something.
Next, figure out what you are going to organize there. If you have a lot of jewelry, you’ll want to get some drawers. If you have a lot of hair accessories, you can play around with how you store them. If you have a lot of handbags, you could try the acrylic clutch organizer that I have, pictured below that you can find here. Also, you can check out my blog post about the organizer here.
The next thing I tackled was my pile of earrings that I currently had stuffed in my jewelry armoire. The drawer organizers I had just did not accommodate my collection, so I needed another solution. I already had a ton of earrings stored on a tabletop organizer, so another solution was needed. If you are interested in the organizer pictured below or other ideas, please check out this blog post.
Next, I knew I wanted to move the acrylic drawers that I had on my dresser (which store headbands) into the closet, so I checked to make sure they could fit on the shelf and still open.
Check out the following organizers, they might be what you are looking for! As always, make sure to measure and make sure the drawers are wide enough for whatever you are storing. Headbands need deeper drawers. You can also check out this blog post for other headband storage ideas. This organizer from Wayfair is good! I love these drawers from the Container Store as well. I also think Amazon has a ton of great items, like these, these and these.
Next, I knew I needed a small spot for my acrylic earring organizers (pictured below), as I didn’t want them on the dresser anymore. The shelf was the perfect space for them and it left me about 14 to 15 inches for another set of organizers. After a long google search, I found the perfect drawers on Amazon, you can find them here. Since I knew I wanted earrings stored in them, I knew I needed drawer organizers as well, but since I didn’t have them, I knew it would be tricky finding drawer inserts that were as shallow as the drawers. Looking at the measurements, I found these at the Container Store and they fit perfectly!!
I hope this inspired you to curate a little corner of your room or closet to house some of your favorite items, be it accessories or something else like hats, shoes, vases or scarves! I firmly believe that wherever you live, no matter if you own it or not, it should be a reflection of you. Your space can be small and still be organized and functional.
