• Be Our Guest

Hello hello, long time no blog!  I have truly enjoyed my hiatus from blogging and from posting a lot to my social media accounts.  This past year was A LOT, to say the least, so I did what most of us tried to do and that was self care.  Also, my husband and I focused the latter half of the year on finding and buying our first house and we did just that!  Thank God!  We now have the space to actually work from home and we are going room by room making small updates and improvements.

The first that I wanted to share was our guest room!  I can’t believe we have an actual guest room, ha!  I want the experience for any of our guests to feel like they are in a luxurious hotel room, with high quality linens, toiletries on demand and chic furnishings and I tried to accomplish this all while staying within our design aesthetic and budget.  I had to work with the space that we have – no renovations to the upstairs just yet. Given that we live in an almost 100 year old colonial, all the bedrooms are the same size and shape with 3 windows so I knew a lot of furniture was not the plan.  I wanted a neutral colored bed that made a statement and that was somewhat timeless so as our design tastes evolve, the furniture won’t be too trendy or dated.  The house was freshly painted when we moved in and the bedrooms had new carpet installed.  In the future, I plan to change the wall colors and rip out the carpet so that the beautiful wood floors can show through.  For now, the focus was bed, mattress, side tables/nightstands, tv, linens, window treatments and a few small accents.

As always, check out the pics below and let me know if you’d like to know where anything was purchased, happy to share.  For starters, the mattress is from Saatva, the bed is from Joss and Main and the side tables are TOV.  Please comment, like, share and stay tuned for more house updates as we slowly and intentionally furnish and style (and organize of course!) our space.

Here is my original mood board for the space. I knew I wanted to add those TOV tables, they are so beautiful and unique.

I just love this bed, its stylish yet timeless to me.  We chose a platform bed because a boxspring would not get up the stairs.  Décor hack – I opted for neutral bedding with a gold print and texture. When picking neutral palettes, opt for different textures to add dimension and interest to your space, you won’t regret it!

I cannot rave enough about this metal and glass TOV table. It is sooooo beautiful in person. I found these pretty gold and acrylic lamps by chance at Homegoods and they go perfectly!  The bubble candles are from H&M.

I found this little 3-drawer dresser on Wayfair. It was the right size and right price – 1/3 of the price for the one I wanted by TOV. It has just enough space for linens and toiletries.  I would not use it for clothing, the drawers are not deep enough.  The TV will be hung on the wall soon and I will place a glass shadow box on the dresser (see below).

I originally bought this shadow box for my headbands, but I like it in our guest room for now.

The top drawer is fully stocked with toiletries and bottled water, just in case a guest is thirsty at night!  The travel size toiletries are stored in little bathroom organizers that I already had.  If you’re curious about them, check out this post here.

This drawer has new washcloths and towels (I keep ours and guest ones separate) and other toiletry items like cotton balls, cotton rounds, q-tips and dental picks.  I like if someone forgot something, they can look there without having to ask.

Décor Hack- I had this desk organizer originally for our shared office, but I decided to go with more wood and acrylic accents, so I repurposed it for a plant organizer!  Found at World Market.
I originally bought cream chenille curtains for the room – but then remembered I had these sheer ivory & gold curtains and valance from my days in Harlem!  The curtain rod is acrylic & gold from Amazon. Once again – repurpose and reuse!

I am debating about hanging this huge picture of the Paris skyline or getting a floor mirror. Stay tuned to see what I decide!

Last but not least, we have to keep our space smelling fresh and free from odor. I love the Caldrea and Opal room and linen sprays (found on Amazon and at Target). The beautiful candle is a gift from my aunt.

Thanks for your post. Another point is that to be a photographer includes not only difficulties in taking award-winning photographs and also hardships in acquiring the best dslr camera suited to your needs and most especially problems in maintaining the quality of your camera. This can be very true and visible for those photography lovers that are directly into capturing the particular nature’s eye-catching scenes — the mountains, the forests, the wild or seas. Visiting these daring places unquestionably requires a photographic camera that can meet the wild’s severe surroundings.
