• Cosmopolitan Closets Guide to: Adding Some Spring to your Home

Happy Monday everyone!  I cannot believe that its Monday already, I swear the only thing that moves fast is time.  Any who – I am sharing some ways that you can brighten your home décor by adding yellow to your dining area.
Now here’s the thing, I am not a huge fan of yellow in the home.  I feel like it can be overpowering and abrasive, however splashes of it during the Spring may be just what is needed to brighten your space after a long winter.  Trust me, colors make all the difference and they can help change your mood and shift the energy.  Check out how I incorporated this color in my dining area with dark brown and jade accents.

What you’ll need is pretty basic – I use a combination of plates, placemats, chargers, napkins and an assortment of dishes.  I have full sets of most the dishes you see, but I mix and match them for a different look. My favorite places to find décor especially for your table are Pier 1, Homegoods, Marshalls, World Market, Target, Walmart and Pottery Barn.  I tend to purchase accent dishes like unusual bowls and saucers in sets of 2 because I don’t need 8 of them lol.  So play around with what you find, but do what works for you.  However, if you are in need of some inspiration, check out my pics below. As always, thanks for reading and if you aren’t following my blog or my social media, make sure you do!

    SETUP 1:

I use a variety of colors and textures to add dimension to the table.  I used a combination of wood and glass, along with ceramic.  I like to layer the place setting with different, but complimentary colors, dishes and décor.

Vase – found at H&M home (exact one here)

Placemats – found at Pier 1 (you can find similar ones here)

Chargers – found at Pier 1 (similar one here)

Glass dinner plate – found at Walmart (whole set here)

Saucer – found at Target (love this set here)

Glass bowl – found at Walmart

Cloth Napkins – found at Pier 1 (find similar ones here)

Here is a close up.  I folded the napkin into a shape of a flower to add some interest.  I have a mug and a champagne flute included in the place setting as well.  I don’t have silverware on the table – but you can easily add it.

Variation 1:  Removed the wooden charger underneath the dinner plate.  This allows the yellow in the placemat to really pop!

Variation 2:  Same set up, but instead of a yellow napkin folded up as a rose, I folder a jade colored napkin around the saucer and then sat the glass bowl on top of it.  Also, I removed the mugs and added the charger back.

    SETUP 2:

Instead of the yellow placemats, I used jade colored velvet placemats.  Additionally, I used a bright yellow glass vase with pink tulips. Instead of champagne flutes and mugs, I used  water glasses.

    Vase: found at Pier 1

    Placemat: found at Pier 1

    Lemon glasses: found at Homegoods

All other dishes:  same as above in Setup 1

    SETUP 3:

I just switched the placemat to this faux twig one (found at Pier 1).  The texture is cool and looks nice with greens and yellows.

Close up of the twig placemat.

Top: Swapped out the placemat for a faux leather placemat (found at Pier 1)

Bottom: Swapped out placemat for a textured fabric placemat (found at World Market)
