Cosmopolitan Closets Customizing - Holiday Decor DIY

Happy Holidays and Happy Monday!  Hope that everyone enjoyed their respective holidays or just some time off spent with loved ones :)  So I wanted to post this before the holiday, but I was so busy preparing for the festivities, I ran outta time.  However, since its still the holiday season, check them out and let me know what you think.

Get Winterized!

Happy Sunday!  I have to admit, this is absolutely my favorite time of year and I am a bit biased since its my birth month and I am a total sucker for the holidays.  Also, I love winter fashion and I absolutely LOVE decorating my home with holiday items and changing my linens for the colder weather.

So, similar to fall and my "fallerizing" (if you have no clue what I am talking about, check out my post about fallerizing here), I also like to "winterize" my home's décor.  By changing my table settings, pillows, blankets, candles and hanging lights and putting up my Christmas tree, my home becomes "winterized" in a short amount of time.

Gettin' Spicy

Happy Hump Day and more importantly Happy Veteran's Day to all of the servicemen and women who keep us safe!!

If you are anything like me and love cooking or at least attempting to, lol, you probably have amassed a large amount of spices and seasonings. If you have a full sized pantry or ample cabinet space, then you probably don't need a storage solution for your spices. However, if you have limited space, then keep reading!!!

"Fallerizing"

Happy Friday and Happy (early) Halloween!  This post is coming a little late in the season, but late is better than never right?  "Fallerizing" to me (which obviously is a made up word) is the act of making your home reflect the Fall season, colors and scents.

I decided to blog about how I "Fallerize" my home because I have a a passion for interior décor (not quite as much as my passion for organizing) and as the seasons change, I like to make some subtle changes to my living/dining room area to reflect that!  Since we are in the height of the fall here in the Northeast, I decided to spice up my home with some great finds from TJMaxx.

Workspace Chic

Happy Monday everyone!  Can you believe its almost Halloween and its almost November?  Why does this time of year fly by so quickly?  Hopefully, you are enjoying the fall season and looking forward to the winter (that's if you're like me and actually like the snow lol).

Recently, I started a new job, same company, but new team and new location.  I am super excited and very thankful that this opportunity worked out and I decided that I wanted to bring a new attitude and a new energy to work and to my space.  Since we have plain cubicles, I wanted to spruce it up and make it unique. Plus, we normally have those standard black, mesh desk organizers and if you're anything like me and hoard office supplies (I can't help it, I love them), then you definitely need something to put them in.

Kitchen Aids

Happy Friday!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful week, I know I did and I am looking forward to the weekend.  Can you believe that it is August already?!   The summer is flying by.  One thing that I love about summer, though, is being in the kitchen making all sorts of wonderful salads and dishes with freshest ingredients.  However, I notice that I am constantly reorganizing ingredients and food items given the limited cabinet and counter space.

Check out some quick ways to keep your kitchen organized and a list of some of my favorite websites for finding unique kitchen items!

The Plant Corner - The Small Apartment Guide to Keeping all of your Plants

Okay, everyone knows that I love plants, especially succulents.  However, what you don't know, is the fact that the plants have taken over my apartment with my bf, who by the way has a pretty green thumb as well lol.  So we needed to figure out, how can we still enjoy the plants without them taking over our bedroom.  Since we have a little nook that has 2 windows, its the perfect place for the plants to stay, but with so many we had to strategize a better way to organize them.

Cosmopolitan Closets Customizing: Thee Perfect Plant Pot

Its no secret that I love plants and flowers and if you follow me on Instagram (@cosmopolitanclosets) you will see tons of posts on my flower arrangements and succulents!  One thing I love doing is customizing ceramic pots to compliment my decor.  Its super easy and affordable and all you need is the following:
1. Plant    2. Clay Pot   3. Paint  4. Brush  5. Tape

I typically buy the clay pots that I find at Home Depot (which you can find here), but they also sell them at Lowes, Walmart and most Florists.  Once I have the pot in the size I want, I pick out a color.  Instead of buying tons of paint, I buy samples of the colors I like, in any finish.  The one pictured below is Behr paint in Caribbean Current.  I absolutely love this color and it goes perfectly with my living room decor!  I usually do 3 coats; a primer, the color and a sealer/gloss.  I normally let the color dry for a few hours before I paint the gloss over it and then I let it dry overnight.  Once its all dry, I add my dirt and my plant and I'm done!  Its so simple. (If you want to do a design, just use tape as the guide.)

Check out the pics below and let me know what you think!  Have you ever customized a plant pot?

Here is my beautiful pot! Painted in Caribbean Current with a Golden Pothos inside.  These plants are easy to grow, require minimal sun and water and have vines that grow for miles!

Cosmopolitan Closets Customizing: Growing A Garden

So I don't know about you, but I absolutely love gardening!  Unfortunately, once I moved out of Harlem, I lost my terrace and my gardening space.  However, that didn't stop me from gardening this summer at my bf's mom's house in Jersey City.

Honestly, there is no recipe for the perfect garden.  I just built the box (with my bf's help of course), filled it with dirt, planted the plants and watched it grow!  Check out my pics below and feel free to share your garden pics too!  I want to see what you are growing!

Here is a list of everything we planted:
Tomatoes, green onions, jalapenos, cow peppers, green bell peppers, banana peppers, carrots, green beans, Japanese eggplant, zucchini, garlic, basil, oregano, tarragon, thyme, rosemary, mint, spearmint, parsley and watermelon (although I am not sure if one will actually grow!).

Greenes Fence 4 ft. x 4 ft. x 21 in. 3-Tiered Cedar Raised Garden Bed
Here is the garden box that I found at Home Depot for $99.  Here is the link.
BEFORE:  This is the garden box built and ready for planting.  The instructions and assembly are very straightforward and require a lot of dirt.

THEN:  This is the garden box once everything was planted, from either seeds or starter plants, all found at Home Depot and Lowes.

NOW:  Everything is growing like crazy!

NYFW Inspired Organizing Series - Day 2, All those Unmentionables

So let's just get right into it, lol. We all have them, piles of them, panties and bras, socks and tights. Often times, however, they take up a lot of space and get bunched in between the dresser drawers or left discarded in some random laundry bin.

On A Pedestal

Happy Tuesday evening everyone!   If you are in the Northeast, I hope you are staying warm from the snow storm!  Since I worked from home today, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to share one of my newest organizing finds!

So if you have a pedestal sink like me, you know very well that your storage options are limited in the bathroom.  Well, no need to fret lol.  I came across a pedestal sink organizer at Bed, Bath and Beyond and let me tell you, its fab!  Its easy to put together, inexpensive and fits snuggly around sink without getting in way when you are brushing your teeth!

Check out my pics below and share your organizing ideas if you have a pedestal sink as well!  I linked the product page too for your shopping convenience.  Happy Organizing and as always, thanks for reading :)

Here is a pic of the rolling organizer from Bed, Bath and Beyond's website!  Super easy to put together and costs $39.

Here is a pic of the organizer in my bathroom.  It fits very close to the sink and is perfect for storing things like cleaning supplies, toilet paper, mouthwash, handsoap etc.  Its not in the way when I stand at the sink either.

Here is a closer view of the organizer.  The wheels make it easy to move for cleaning.  Plus, it doesn't get in the way of the rug.
